Oh, people most certainly do make this stuff. We have seen unlicensed amateur or “fan” art. Renaissance festivals and science fiction conventions are the usual local venues, but you might also see if your community has craft shops that cater to science fiction and fantasy fans.
Flea markets often have vendors who sell novelty merchandise, including science fiction and fantasy themed products. We have also seen some specialty sellers in farmers markets.
